There has recently been quite a controversy surrounding the double dapple
coat coloration in Dachshunds, and whether or not breeding for that coloration necessarily led to birth defects. Since my research, the AKC has altered the registration papers so that it is impossible to register a double dapple any longer. This is unfair.

While I do not recommend that this type of breeding be taken lightly or attempted by inexperienced breeders, I believe that the defects come more out of poor bloodlines and inadequate research, rather than the gene combination for the coat coloration alone. The following is a research paper I wrote on the subject. I am trying to get people to do their own research into the subject and to form their own opinions. Breeders need to research into the bloodlines of their breeding stock before attempting any match, especially ones that could produce the more exotic coat colorations and patterns.
